April 12-13, 2014: A spring camp was called along Sheep Creek in Northern Colorado. Brad Bailey and Waylon Johnson headed the call to explore some new country. Winter still left her mark firmly planted at 9,000'. April in this part of the country is usually a bit dry and hospitable. Some tributaries that were on the agenda to explore were still covered with snow and ice. Lower in elevation the men descended to where Beaver sign could be seen. This area appeared to be trapped out? Perhaps another company had made their way through that fall? A large lodge was located with some sign of activity. I surmise it was a lone long tooth that had evaded the company before. Camp was made in a large clearing that afforded both cover and dry wood. The ground was hard but the conversation that followed was good. Night brought a snow storm that greeted the two scouts as they awoke in the morning. Camp was broke soon after breakfast as the snow was 5 inches and gaining as the hours passed. It was a good camp to learn about a new area as well as some field knowledge on punk wood and what to look for when you are collecting it for char.
